Internal Communications Specialist

Zurich North America is hiring an Internal Communications Specialist to join our team! We are open to hiring talent in our Schaumburg, IL location.

 

Purpose:

 

Responsible for the development and implementation of employee communications plans to support the communications strategies for assigned business partner/Business Unit(s) or Strategic Support Unit(s). We are looking for a business storyteller who has experience in delivering content strategies that compel, excite and drive connection and belonging for our employees. You will bring our corporate narrative to life by developing content for our internal communications channels that is purposeful and in support of Zurich North America’s business objectives. This role requires a creative and strategic problem solver, with an eye toward data-driven communications solutions.

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Develop and deliver an effective, fully aligned and clear employee communications plan and tactical communications solutions that supports Business Unit and/or Strategic Support Unit at the local level.
  • Drive key messages through a variety of communications channels, using proven communications/change management methods and tools to achieve set objectives.
  • Understands the basics of operational and front line insurance business, including key financials, market cycles, drivers, macro and micro environmental factors and is able to report out on these.
  • Manage internal campaigns and news, including ensuring important business projects and information are communicated to all employees.
  • Use storytelling, creative content, and innovative communication channels to engage employees about the progress and priorities of the Business Unit/Strategic Support Unit.
  • Ensure that any Business Unit/Strategic Support Unit communication is aligned to our global strategy, local business priorities and values.
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of global and local strategy, direction and initiatives at the Business Unit/Strategic Support Unit level.
  • Support organizational change and business transformation through communications planning, collaboration with other local communications colleagues and attention to detail during implementation.
  • Source and provide locally relevant stories to feed the Business Unit/Strategic Support Unit, local and global channels.
  • Arm people managers with briefings and materials that inform and mobilize employees.
  • Consider the external implications of implementing employee communications campaigns and projects, and collaborate with Media and Public Relations colleagues on external messages to mitigate risks.

Basic Qualifications:

 

Internal Communication Specialist:

 

  • Bachelors Degree and 7 or more years of experience in the Communications or Marketing or Media Relations or Public Relations area
    OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 9 or more years of experience in the Communications or Marketing or Media Relations or Public Relations area
    OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 7 or more years of experience in the Communications or Marketing or Media Relations or Public Relations area

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Demonstrated excellent performance as a business partner and/or as a manager
  • Strong grasp of business issues and how they relate to communications
  • Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, etc. or related fields.
  • A proven track record in developing, managing and implementing employee communications plans translating into solid and practical delivery programs.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, including the ability to work confidently and effectively with senior leaders.
  • Strategic thinking ability
  • Demonstrated experience with Viva Engage and graphics tools, like Canva
  • Ability to thrive as a member of a team and to build collaborative working relationships with all levels of staff and management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, strategic planning and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong knowledge of communications trends and best practices.
  • Broad knowledge of insurance/financial services industry and global marketplace.
  • Experience in handling crisis communications

 

At Zurich, compensation for roles is influenced by a variety of factors, including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. In compliance with local laws, Zurich commits to providing a fair and reasonable compensation range for each role. For more information about our Total Rewards, please click here. Additional rewards may encompass short-term incentive bonuses and merit increases. We encourage candidates with salary expectations beyond the provided range to apply, as they will be considered based on their experience, skills, and education. The compensation indicated represents a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for geographic differentials pertaining to the location where the position may be filled. The proposed Salary range for the Specialist Level is $81,800.00 - $133,900.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%.
